Why aren’t there any servers in my area?

Speedtest.net works with third-parties who sponsor servers for Speedtest.net. Working with them, we have over 15,000 servers to test to all around the globe. This also means that if a third-party has not come forward for that location, we will not have a server there.

Your computer’s firewall or a proxy server might be blocking communication over port 8080, which will limit the number of servers available for testing.

Why am I getting different speeds between my computer and my phone/tablet?

Speedtest is measuring your real-time network connection, so tests taken within a few minutes of each other might vary a little based on network congestion and available bandwidth. If your Speedtest results are significantly different, make sure that you’re:

  • Testing the same connection. If one device is on Wi-Fi and the other is not, you’re testing the speeds of different connections.
  • Testing to the same server. Speedtest automatically selects a server to test to based on ping, but you can also select a server to test to.

Also, note that there are large variations in Wi-Fi and cellular radio quality and MIMO stream handling quality between devices. These variations can cause a device to deliver slower test results than another device or computer.

I paid for ad removal, but I’m still seeing ads.

Go to Settings in the app and tap Remove Ads and then Restore. If restore fails:

  • Ensure that you’re using the same App Store account that you used originally for the purchase.
  • Ensure that you’re not behind any firewalls or work networks that might block access to Apple servers.
  • Try restarting your device and restoring purchases in the app again.
  • If it’s still not working, please contact Apple or Google Play Store for support.

Why is my Video Test result not showing in video results history?

In order to complete a video test, the video must be actively playing in the foreground the entire time. If it is not, the test will exit as incomplete and the results will not be recorded in your results history.

There are no providers listed in the Coverage Maps drawer.

This typically happens if you are not on a network connection. Check to make sure you’re connected to the internet and that your device is not in airplane mode.

This could also occur if there are no providers available in your selected area. Continue to move the map until it is in an area with available providers.

Why is Coverage Maps saying “Provider Unknown”?

If you’re screen looks similar to this:

It is likely that we cannot identify your provider. Coverage Maps only maps coverage for cellular providers. When you are connected to Wi-Fi, we don’t identify your cellular provider, but you can still use Coverage Maps by sliding up the drawer and picking any Top Provider in the area.

If you don’t see your provider listed, disconnect from Wi-Fi and we will be able to identify your cellular provider and properly map their coverage data.
