Algeria

  • Mobile provider Ooredoo had the highest Speed Score™ (25.69) and Consistency Score™ (83.4%) in Algeria during Q3 2021.
  • Apple devices were the fastest devices in Algeria during Q3 2021, achieving a mean download speed of 27.53 Mbps.
  • The Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G was the fastest popular device in Algeria for the second quarter in a row with a mean download speed of 39.66 Mbps.
  • Apple devices took four out of the top five spots among popular devices, with Xiaomi’s Redmi K40 5G taking the runner-up spot on this list at 35.78 Mbps.

Jordan

  • Speedtest Intelligence found Umniah was the fastest mobile operator in Jordan during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 35.86.
  • Umniah also had the highest Consistency Score at 93.9%.
  • For the second quarter in a row, fixed broadband provider Orange had the fastest Speed Score (77.30).
  • Fixed broadband provider DAMAMAX overtook Orange for the highest Consistency Score at 86.5%.
  • Among popular mobile devices, Apple’s iPhone 12 5G narrowly beat out the iPhone 12 Pro 5G for fastest median download and upload speeds at 39.43 Mbps and 18.73 Mbps, respectively.
  • Amman had the fastest median fixed broadband and mobile download speeds among Jordan’s most populous cities at 51.12 Mbps and 19.46 Mbps, respectively.

Kenya

  • Mobile provider Safaricom had the highest Speed Score (29.20) and Consistency Score (85.0%) in Kenya during Q3 2021.
  • For fixed broadband, Faiba had the highest Speed Score (26.47) and Consistency Score (48.7%) in Kenya for the second quarter in a row during Q3 2021.
  • Mombasa had the fastest mean mobile download and upload speeds among Kenya’s most populous cities at 28.25 Mbps and 16.26 Mbps, respectively.
  • Mombasa overtook Eldoret as the city with the fastest median fixed broadband download speed at 22.61 Mbps during Q3 2021.

Morocco

  • Mobile operator Maroc Telecom achieved the highest Speed Score (56.99) and Consistency Score (90.9%) during Q3 2021, both slight dips from Q2 2021 results.
  • Marrakesh regained the top spot during Q3 2021 as the fastest city among Morocco’s most populous cities with a mean mobile download speed at 40.69 Mbps. Fes and Salé were close at 40.25 Mbps and 40.15 Mbps, respectively.

Nigeria

  • For the third quarter in a row, mobile provider Airtel had the fastest Speed Score in Nigeria at 33.43 during Q3 2021 — a slight increase from 28.82 during Q2 2021.
  • Airtel overtook MTN for the highest Consistency Score on mobile during Q3 2021 at 89.4% to MTN’s 82.7%.
  • Fixed broadband provider ipNX had the best Speed Score (21.66) and Consistency Score (40.2%) in Nigeria during Q3 2021.
  • The iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G was the fastest popular device in Nigeria during Q3 2021, achieving a mean download speed of 41.94 Mbps — just faster than the iPhone 12 Pro 5G (41.37 Mbps).
  • Kano took the top spot among Nigeria’s most populous cities for fastest mean mobile download speed at 24.76 Mbps during Q3 2021.

Qatar

  • Ooredoo had the best Speed Score over mobile and fixed broadband in Qatar for the second quarter in a row during Q3 2021 at 145.53 and 71.36, respectively.
  • 5G performance was extremely competitive with Ooredoo achieving the fastest median 5G download speed at 373.98 Mbps and Vodafone achieving 346.91 Mbps.
  • Ooredoo had the highest fixed broadband Consistency Score at 81.8%.
  • Vodafone had the highest mobile Consistency Score at 93.8%, edging out Ooredoo’s 91.4%.
  • Al Khor had the fastest median mobile download speed among Qatar’s most populous cities during Q3 2021 at 135.79 Mbps.
  • Umm Salal Muhammed had the fastest fixed broadband download speeds in Qatar at 83.41 Mbps.
  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals that among popular devices in Qatar during Q3 2021, Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G achieved the fastest median mobile download speed at 330.68 Mbps, a significant increase from Q2 2021’s 284.32 Mbps.

South Africa

  • Speedtest Intelligence shows Cool Ideas had the fastest fixed broadband Speed Score (53.85) and Consistency Score (73.0%) for the second quarter in a row during Q3 2021.
  • Among mobile operators, MTN had the fastest Speed Score (63.52) and highest Consistency Score (91.0%).
  • Apple devices had the fastest combined median download speed in South Africa at 38.24 Mbps and fastest median upload speed at 8.11 Mbps during Q3 2021.
  • The iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G took top honors as the fastest popular device, achieving a median download speed of 79.56 Mbps.

Tunisia

  • During Q3 2021, Ooredoo achieved the highest mobile Speed Score in Tunisia at 44.06, a slight dip from Q2 2021.
  • Tunisie Telecom had the highest fixed broadband Speed Score at 9.31.
  • Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G had the fastest mean download speed in Tunisia among popular devices during Q3 2021 at 64.43 Mbps.
  • Among popular chipsets, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 5G had the fastest mean download speed for the second quarter in a row at 62.92 Mbps.
  • Sfax had the fastest mean mobile download speed in Tunisia for the second quarter in a row at 47.02 Mbps.

Turkey

  • Speedtest Intelligence revealed mobile provider Turkcell had the highest Speed Score and Consistency Score in Turkey during Q3 2021 at 67.19 and 93.3%, respectively. Both scores were slight increases from Q2 2021.
  • For fixed broadband, TurkNet edged out Turksat Kablo for the highest Speed Score 38.14 to 37.57.
  • Turknet also had the highest Consistency Score for fixed broadband at 72.3% during Q3 2021.
  • Istanbul had the fastest mean fixed broadband and mobile download speed at 48.34 Mbps and 56.43 Mbps, respectively.
  • Among top device manufacturers, Apple beat out Samsung for fastest mean download speed at 55.72 Mbps to 43.52 Mbps, respectively.

Asia and Oceania

Australia

  • Aussie Broadband was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Australia, earning a Speed Score of 88.33 during Q3 2021.
  • Aussie Broadband also had the highest Consistency Score, edging out Vodafone 85.7% to 83.2%.
  • Competition for the fastest fixed broadband speed among Australia’s most populous cities was extremely tight, with seven cities achieving between 49.00 Mbps and 53.00 Mbps. Melbourne(52.53 Mbps) edged out Darwin (52.42 Mbps), Brisbane (52.41 Mbps) and Sydney (52.30 Mbps).

China

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, China Telecom was the fastest fixed broadband provider in China during Q3 2021 with a Speed Score of 129.56, a moderate gain over Q2 2021.
  • China Mobile continued to have the highest Consistency Score in China for fixed broadband during Q3 2021 at 90.3%, edging out China Telecom’s 88.4% and China Unicom’s 87.8%.
  • On mobile, China Mobile achieved the highest Speed Score (141.55) and Consistency Score (92.7%) among China’s top providers during Q3 2021.
  • During Q3 2021, China Telecom achieved a median 5G download speed of 304.03 Mbps, edging out China Mobile’s 302.99 Mbps.
  • Among top device manufacturers, Huawei had the fastest median download speed at 96.66 Mbps in China during Q3 2021 — a gain over Q2 2021. OnePlus followed at 85.92 Mbps, then Oppo (82.26 Mbps), Samsung (78.00 Mbps) and Vivo (66.97 Mbps).
  • Among popular devices, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max edged out Huawei’s Mate 40 Pro 5G for the fastest median download speed in China during Q3 2021 at 290.23 Mbps to 280.22 Mbps.
  • During Q3 2021, MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 5G chipset had the fastest median download speed at 295.51 Mbps, supplanting Huawei’s Kirin 9000 5G as the fastest chipset in China.
  • Tianjin once again had the fastest median fixed broadband download speed among China’s most populous cities at 215.33 Mbps, a moderate rise from its Q2 2021 results.
  • Harbin had the fastest median mobile download speed among China’s most populous cities at 92.34 Mbps, edging out Shenzhen’s 92.17 Mbps. This was a noticeable rise from Q2 2021 when Hangzhou was the fastest at 72.97 Mbps.

Hong Kong (SAR)

  • China Mobile Hong Kong was the fastest mobile operator in Hong Kong for the third quarter in a row, earning a Speed Score of 74.49 in Q3 2021.
  • China Mobile Hong Kong once again blazed ahead of the competition for the fastest 5G download speed, achieving a median speed of 191.95 Mbps during Q3 2021, a decline from its Q2 2021 results. Mobile provider 3 followed at 165.12 Mbps, then SmarTone at 147.10 Mbps and csl at 121.60 Mbps.
  • Among top manufacturers during Q3 2021, Samsung had the fastest median download speed at 44.64 Mbps, edging out Apple’s median download speed of 43.20 Mbps.
  • During Q3 2021, the iPhone 13 Pro Max took the top spot among popular devices in Hong Kong with a median download speed of 125.92 Mbps.
  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X60 5G was the fastest modern chipset for median download speed during Q3 2021 at 122.84 Mbps.

Indonesia

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Biznet was once again Indonesia’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 42.17.
  • Biznet also had the highest fixed broadband Consistency Score in Indonesia during Q3 2021, edging out MyRepublic 68.3% to 63.5%.
  • Telkomsel was the fastest major mobile operator in Indonesia during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 30.49. Telkomsel also achieved the top Consistency Score at 85.7%, beating out XL (82.7%) and IM3 Ooredoo (82.6%).
  • The Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G edged out the Xiaomi Redmi K40 5G as the fastest popular device with a mean download speed of 44.95 Mbps to 43.18 Mbps.
  • Jakarta had the fastest mean fixed broadband download speed of Indonesia’s most populous cities at 33.73 Mbps, while Makassar achieved the fastest mean mobile download speed at 25.30 Mbps.

Malaysia

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals that TIME was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Malaysia during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 120.10. TIME also achieved the highest Consistency Score for fixed broadband at 87.6%.
  • On mobile, Digi edged out Maxis for the fastest mobile operator in Malaysia, earning a Speed Score of 33.19 to Maxis’ 31.94 during Q3 2021.
  • Apple devices showed the fastest speed in Malaysia during Q3 2021 with a mean download speed of 37.51 Mbps.
  • Competition was fierce among popular devices in Malaysia during Q3 2021, with the Apple iPhone 12 Pro 5G edging out the iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G at 55.06 Mbps to 54.78 Mbps. The iPhone 12 5G followed at 54.22 Mbps and then the Xiaomi Redmi K40 5G (54.20 Mbps).
  • Among Malaysia’s most populous cities, Petaling Jaya had the fastest mean fixed broadband speed during Q3 2021, achieving a 129.74 Mbps download and a 89.11 Mbps upload.
  • Nusajaya had the fastest mean mobile download speed at 38.08 Mbps during Q3 2021.

New Zealand

  • During Q3 2021, Vodafone was the fastest mobile operator in New Zealand, earning a Speed Score of 68.79.
  • Vodafone also achieved the fastest median 5G download speed at 326.44 Mbps. Spark was second at 266.75 Mbps.
  • The Apple iPhone 12 5G was very slightly ahead of the iPhone 12 Pro 5G for fastest median download among popular devices in New Zealand with 92.96 Mbps to 92.70 Mbps, respectively, during Q3 2021.
  • Among popular device manufacturers, Oppo edged out Apple for the fastest median download speed in New Zealand during Q3 2021, 44.00 Mbps to 43.47 Mbps.
  • Christchurch had the fastest median mobile download speed at 52.16 Mbps.

Philippines

  • During Q3 2021, Smart had the highest Speed Score (59.71) among top mobile operators in the Philippines.
  • Smart had the fastest median 5G download speed in the Philippines during Q3 2021 at 217.03 Mbps, nearly twice as fast as Globe’s 114.12 Mbps.
  • Competition for the fastest popular device was tight during Q3 2021, with all of the top five devices achieving median download speeds between 72.00 and 76.00 Mbps. However, Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro 5G edged out the iPhone Pro Max 5G at 75.27 Mbps to 74.68 Mbps.
  • Caloocan had the fastest median download speed among the Philippines’ most populous cities at 22.05 Mbps.

Singapore

  • Speedtest Intelligence shows ViewQuest was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Singapore in Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 276.23. MyRepublic, SingTel and StarHub all achieved a Speed Score above 200.00, while M1 followed at 183.83.
  • Singtel was the fastest mobile provider in Singapore during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 99.74, a moderate rise from Q2 2021.
  • Singtel also blazed ahead of the competition for fastest median 5G download speed at 248.45 Mbps during Q3 2021 — a noticeable rise from Q2 2021.
  • The Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max was the fastest popular device in Singapore during Q3 2021, achieving a median download speed of 164.40 Mbps.
  • Apple beat out Samsung for fastest device manufacturer during Q3 2021, with Apple devices in Singapore achieving a median download speed of 71.98 Mbps to Samsung’s 63.73 Mbps.

Taiwan

  • During Q3 2021, Chunghwa Telecom had the fastest median 5G download speed in Taiwan at 440.93 Mbps. FarEasTone followed at 335.17 Mbps, then Taiwan Mobile (262.99 Mbps) and TSTAR (138.51 Mbps).
  • FarEasTone had the highest Consistency Score in Taiwan during Q3 2021 at 92.8%.
  • Among top device manufacturers during Q3 2021, Apple devices achieved the fastest median download speed in Taiwan at 50.25 Mbps.
  • The Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max had the fastest median download speed among popular devices in Taiwan at 200.90 Mbps.

Vietnam

  • Viettel again claimed the top spot as Vietnam’s fastest mobile and fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, earning a mobile Speed Score of 46.33 and fixed broadband Speed Score of 68.01.
  • Vinaphone had the highest mobile Consistency Score in Vietnam during Q3 2021 at 94.7%.
  • Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G had the fastest median download speed among popular devices in Vietnam during Q3 2021 at 62.67 Mbps, edging out the iPhone 12 5G (61.24 Mbps) and iPhone 12 Pro 5G (61.22 Mbps).
  • Ho Chi Minh City took the top spot for the fastest median fixed broadband download speed among Vietnam’s most populous cities with 65.63 Mbps (63.05 Mbps upload).
  • Da Nang took the top spot for fastest median mobile download speed among Vietnam’s most populous cities at 42.66 Mbps during Q3 2021.

Europe

Austria

  • Magenta retained its top spot as Austria’s fastest fixed broadband provider with a Speed Score of 148.04 during Q3 2021. LIWEST was the closest competitor (83.34).
  • Magenta also had the highest Consistency Score for fixed broadband at 88.4% in Q3 2021.
  • A1 was again the fastest mobile provider in Austria during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 73.85. Operator 3 followed at 52.46.
  • A1 had the highest mobile Consistency Score in Austria during Q3 2021 at 92.8%.

Belgium

  • Telenet decisively claimed its spot as Belgium’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 123.84.
  • Telenet had the highest fixed broadband Consistency Score at 88.0% during Q3 2021.
  • Among mobile operators, BASE earned the fastest Speed Score in Belgium at 66.22, edging out Telenet (64.41) and Proximus (62.30).
  • Once again, Ghent retained its top place for fastest median mobile download speed among Belgium’s most populous cities, achieving a median speed of 86.27 Mbps during Q3 2021.
  • Ghent overtook Antwerp for the fastest median fixed broadband download speed at 81.05 Mbps to 79.89 Mbps, respectively.

Czechia

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals T-Mobile was Czechia’s fastest mobile provider during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 58.82.
  • Vodafone claimed the best mobile Consistency Score during Q3 2021, earning 93.0% to O2’s 90.3%.
  • Vodafone dominated as Czechia’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 92.47.
  • Vodafone once again had Czechia’s highest Consistency Score for fixed broadband during Q3 2021 at 76.3%.
  • Pilsen had the fastest median fixed broadband speed among Czechia’s most populous cities, achieving a median download of 53.40 Mbps, edging out Brno’s 52.74 Mbps.
  • Brno had the fastest median mobile download speed at 69.68 Mbps, beating out Pilsen’s 66.66 Mbps.

Denmark

  • Fastspeed was Denmark’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 303.91. Hiper followed at 245.03.
  • Telenor supplanted YouSee as Denmark’s fastest mobile operator, earning a Speed Score of 88.48 to YouSee’s 85.01.
  • An analysis of performance on some of the most popular phones in Denmark revealed the iPhone 13 Pro had the fastest median download speed during Q3 2021 at 124.21 Mbps.

Estonia

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Elisa was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Estonia during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 84.47.
  • Elisa also had the highest Consistency Score at 81.0%, edging out Infonet (77.7%).
  • Telia had the fastest mobile Speed Score in Estonia during Q3 2021 at 78.26.
  • The Apple iPhone 12 Pro 5G was the fastest popular device in Estonia, earning a median download speed of 100.94 Mbps. The iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G followed closely at 98.71 Mbps.
  • Among major cell phone manufacturers, OnePlus had the fastest median download speed in Estonia during Q3 2021 at 59.91 Mbps.

Finland

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, DNA retained its top spot as Finland’s fastest mobile provider in Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 79.26. DNA also edged out Telia for the highest Consistency Score, achieving 92.5% to Telia’s 89.6%.
  • Telia beat out Elisa and DNA in Q3 2021 for the fastest 5G download in Finland, achieving a median download speed of 283.34 Mbps to Elisa’s 231.45 Mbps and DNA’s 218.08 Mbps.
  • Telia retained its top spot as the fastest fixed broadband provider in Finland during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 94.56.
  • Fixed broadband provider Elisa supplanted Telia in Q3 2021 for the highest Consistency Score at 82.2% to Telia’s 80.8%.
  • Among popular device manufacturers, OnePlus had the fastest median download speed in Finland during Q3 2021 at 71.38 Mbps. However, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G had the fastest median download speed among popular devices at 114.93 Mbps, edging out the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G (113.96 Mbps).

France

  • Speedtest Intelligence revealed a fierce competition for France’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, with Free narrowly edging out Bouygues with a Speed Score of 121.89 to 118.16.
  • SFR achieved the highest fixed broadband Consistency Score in France during Q3 2021 at 68.1%.
  • Orange once again earned the top spot as France’s fastest and most consistent mobile provider, earning a mobile Speed Score of 82.84 and a Consistency Score of 87.9%.
  • During Q3 2021, Orange blew away the competition as France’s fastest 5G provider by achieving a median 5G download speed of 352.77 Mbps, slightly faster than Q2 2021. SFR followed at 205.19 Mbps.
  • The Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G was the fastest popular device in France during Q3 2021, edging out the iPhone 12 Pro 5G with a median download speed of 103.71 Mbps to 102.21 Mbps.
  • During Q3 2021, Lyon achieved the fastest median fixed broadband download and upload speeds at 151.09 Mbps and 102.62 Mbps, respectively. Nice had the fastest median mobile download speed at 78.19 Mbps.

Germany

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Vodafone was once again Germany’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 126.45.
  • Vodafone also took the top spot among fixed broadband providers for highest Consistency Score at 80.2%.
  • Telekom achieved the highest Speed Score (80.92) and Consistency Score (90.1%) among German mobile operators during Q3 2021.
  • Telekom supplanted O2 for the fastest median 5G download speed in Germany with 161.14 Mbps and 157.55 Mbps, respectively, during Q3 2021.
  • The iPhone 13 Pro Max had the fastest median download speed among popular devices in Germany during Q3 2021, edging out the iPhone 13 Pro with 138.74 Mbps to 134.41 Mbps.

Hungary

  • Vodafone retained its top spot as Hungary’s fastest fixed broadband provider in Q3 2021, edging out DIGI with a Speed Score of 153.79 to 148.05. Vodafone retained the top spot for highest Consistency Score at 86.6% during Q3 2021.
  • Magyar Telekom retained its top spot as Hungary’s fastest and most consistent mobile provider during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 52.30 and Consistency Score of 89.0%.
  • Apple devices took the top spot among major device manufacturers in Q3 2021, achieving a median download speed of 41.09 Mbps in Hungary.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G edged out Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G for the fastest median download speed among popular devices in Hungary during Q3 2021, 77.92 Mbps to 76.08 Mbps.

Latvia

  • Speedtest Intelligence revealed that Balticom was once again the fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider in Latvia during Q3 2021 achieving a Speed Score of 193.08 and Consistency Score of 90.7% — both slight increases over Q2 2021.
  • LMT was the fastest mobile operator in Latvia during Q3 2021 with a Speed Score of 47.79.
  • Tukums had the fastest median mobile download speed in Latvia at 50.02 Mbps during Q3 2021.

Luxembourg

  • Tango retained its top spot as Luxembourg’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021 by achieving a Speed Score of 126.48.
  • POST was again the fastest mobile operator in Luxembourg during Q3 2021, achieving a small increase in Speed Score from 102.09 in Q2 2021 to 109.64 in Q3 2021.
  • POST also remained the most consistent mobile operator in Luxembourg with a Consistency Score of 96.0%.
  • Differdange achieved the fastest median fixed broadband download and upload speeds among Luxembourg’s most populous cities at 116.46 Mbps and 92.67 Mbps, respectively.
  • Ettelbruck had the fastest median mobile download and upload speeds at 148.58 Mbps and 22.41 Mbps, respectively.

Malta

  • Melita retained its top spot as Malta’s fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 112.49 and Consistency Score of 82.9%.

Slovakia

  • Orange knocked Telekom out of first place as Slovakia’s fastest mobile operator during Q3 2021 with a Speed Score of 55.57 to Telekom’s 53.63.
  • Telekom had the highest mobile Consistency Score in Slovakia during Q3 2021 at 89.6%.
  • UPC retained its top spot as Slovakia’s fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider with a Speed Score of 139.98 and a Consistency Score of 86.6%.

  • Movistar provided the fastest and most consistent mobile experience among Spanish mobile providers with a Speed Score of 54.30 and Consistency Score of 88.5%.
  • Vodafone was Spain’s fastest 5G provider by a wide margin during Q3 2021, achieving a median download speed of 323.13 Mbps.
  • The Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G had the fastest median download speed in Spain during Q3 2021 at 70.14 Mbps.
  • During Q3 2021, Madrid had the fastest median mobile download speed at 41.85 Mbps. Barcelona followed at 38.58 Mbps.

North and South America

Argentina

  • Speedtest Intelligence revealed Personal remained Argentina’s fastest mobile operator during Q3 2021 with a Speed Score of 40.08.
  • Buenos Aires edged out La Plata for mobile download speeds in Argentina’s most populous cities with a median speed of 25.45 Mbps to La Plata’s 23.98 Mbps during Q3 2021.

Brazil

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals Claro remained the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Brazil among top providers during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 44.76 and Consistency Score of 88.2%.
  • There was no statistically fastest provider for median 5G download speed, though Claro showed 65.92 Mbps, Vivo 64.61 Mbps and TIM 58.14 Mbps.
  • Among popular device manufacturers, Apple had the fastest median download speed in Brazil at 29.98 Mbps. Apple devices took four out of five of the top spots among popular devices in Brazil with the iPhone 12 5G achieving the fastest mean download speed at 53.28 Mbps.
  • Brasília had the fastest median mobile download speed among Brazil’s most populous cities at 31.44 Mbps during Q3 2021.

Canada

  • Shaw was Canada’s fastest fixed broadband provider in Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 184.26.
  • Rogers edged out Shaw for the highest Consistency Score in Canada during Q3 2021 with 89.0% to Shaw’s 86.7%.
  • TELUS retained its top spot as the fastest mobile operator in Canada during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 81.93.
  • Videotron also retained its top spot during Q3 2021 as Canada’s most consistent mobile operator, achieving a Consistency Score of 87.4%.
  • Competition for the fastest 5G was fierce during Q3 2021. Bell achieved the fastest median 5G download speed of 183.39 Mbps and TELUS followed at 176.38 Mbps.
  • Rogers achieved the highest 5G Availability in Canada during Q3 2021 at 35.9%.
  • Newfoundland and Labrador retained its top spot as Canada’s fastest region for fixed broadband during Q3 2021, achieving a median download speed of 124.22 Mbps. This province was also fastest for mobile.
  • Calgary also retained its top spot among the most populous cities with the fastest median fixed broadband download speed at 134.33 Mbps. Halifax took the top spot for mobile download speed by a wide margin with a median download speed of 113.10 Mbps.
  • Samsung devices had the fastest combined performance in Canada during Q3 2021, achieving a median download speed of 67.14 Mbps.
  • The iPhone 13 Pro Max was the fastest popular device in Canada during Q3 2021, achieving a median download speed of 164.63 Mbps.

Chile

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Claro was the fastest mobile operator in Chile with a Speed Score of 24.44 during Q3 2021. Claro also had the highest Consistency Score at 78.1%.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G had the fastest mean download speed among popular devices in Chile during Q3 2021 at 33.37 Mbps, edging out the iPhone 12 Mini 5G (32.25 Mbps).
  • Among popular device manufacturers in Chile, Apple had the fastest mean download at 22.81 Mbps, a hair faster than Samsung’s 21.56 Mbps. Xioami, Motorola and Huawei followed.
  • Temuco had the fastest mobile speeds in Chile during Q3 2021, achieving a mean download speed of 23.08 Mbps. Valparaíso and Viña del Mar were close followers at 22.97 Mbps and 22.59 Mbps, respectively.

Colombia

  • Tigo was the fastest mobile operator in Colombia during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 26.21. WOM followed at 17.36. Tigo also had the highest Consistency Score at 85.5%.
  • Among popular devices in Colombia during Q3 2021, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G edged out the iPhone 12 Pro 5G for fastest mean download at 32.08 Mbps to 32.01 Mbps.
  • Cartagena narrowly beat out Barranquilla for the fastest mean mobile download speed among Colombia’s most populous cities at 22.78 Mbps to 22.25 Mbps during Q3 2021.

Ecuador

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Netlife was Ecuador’s fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 41.54 and Consistency Score of 73.0%.
  • CNT was the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Ecuador during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 41.65 and Consistency Score of 85.7%.
  • During Q3 2021, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G was the fastest popular device in Ecuador, achieving a mean download speed of 39.89 Mbps. Apple devices took all of the five top spots on this list.
  • Quito had the fastest fixed broadband among Ecuador’s most populous cities during Q3 2021, achieving a mean download speed of 39.07 Mbps. This edged out Guayaquil’s mean download of 38.90 Mbps.
  • Machala had the fastest mean mobile download speed in Ecuador during Q3 2021 at 27.28 Mbps.

Guatemala

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Claro was the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Guatemala during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 38.01 and Consistency Score of 89.2%.
  • Tigo was the fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider in Guatemala during Q3 2021 with a Speed Score of 19.97 and Consistency Score of 38.7%.
  • The Apple iPhone 12 5G was the fastest popular device in Guatemala during Q3 2021, edging out the iPhone 12 Pro 5G with a mean download speed of 50.23 Mbps to the iPhone 12 Pro 5G’s 50.20 Mbps.
  • Guatemala City had the fastest mean mobile download speed among Guatemala’s most populous cities at 31.11 Mbps.
  • Villa Nueva had the fastest mean fixed broadband download speed at 29.78 Mbps.

Mexico

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals Telcel remained Mexico’s fastest mobile operator during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 46.79.
  • Telcel was also Mexico’s most consistent mobile operator, achieving a Consistency Score of 87.9% during Q3 2021.
  • Totalplay was the fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider in Mexico during Q3 2021, achieving a Speed Score of 46.24 and Consistency Score of 71.9%
  • Apple devices had the five fastest mean download speeds among popular phones in Mexico during Q3 2021. The iPhone 12 Pro 5G narrowly beat out the iPhone 12 5G and iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G for the fastest popular device during Q3 2021, achieving respective speeds of 72.22 Mbps, 70.99 Mbps and 69.62 Mbps.
  • Veracruz once again showed the fastest mean mobile download and upload speeds among Mexico’s most populous cities during Q3 2021, recording a speed of 45.76 Mbps and mean upload speed of 19.56 Mbps.
  • Monterrey beat out Mexico City for the fastest fixed broadband download speed, earning a mean speed of 69.32 Mbps to Mexico City’s 65.39 Mbps.

Peru

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Movistar was Peru’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q3 2021, narrowly edging out Claro for fastest Speed Score with 44.39 to 42.22, respectively. Claro had the highest Consistency Score on fixed broadband during Q3 2021, beating out Movistar 72.9% to 65.9%.
  • Claro was the fastest mobile operator in Peru during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 34.05.
  • Entel had the highest mobile Consistency Score in Peru during Q3 2021, narrowly edging out Claro at 78.1% to 77.4%.
  • Among major device manufacturers, Apple devices achieved the fastest mean download speed by a wide margin in Peru during Q3 2021, achieving 40.32 Mbps to Samsung’s 23.90 Mbps.

United States

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals Verizon was once again the fastest fixed broadband provider in the United States during Q3 2021, earning a Speed Score of 178.38.
  • T-Mobile was once again the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in the U.S. during Q3 2021, achieving a median download speed of 62.35 Mbps and a Consistency Score of 84.4%.
  • Looking at tests taken only on 5G, T-Mobile achieved the fastest median 5G download speed during Q3 2021 at 135.17 Mbps — a significant increase from 99.84 Mbps during Q2 2021.
  • During Q3 2021, T-Mobile had the best 5G Availability in the U.S. at 64.4%.
  • Competition for the highest 5G Consistency was extremely close in the U.S. during Q3 2021, with Verizon Wireless achieving a 5G Consistency Score of 78.8%, T-Mobile 78.4% and AT&T 73.8%.
  • The recently released iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro blazed ahead of the competition for fastest popular device in the U.S. during Q3 2021, achieving median download speeds of 95.96 Mbps and 94.72 Mbps, respectively. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G was next at 83.81 Mbps.
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania had the fastest median mobile download speed in the U.S. during Q3 2021 at 82.94 Mbps.
  • Austin, Texas had the fastest fixed broadband speed among the U.S.’s most populous cities during Q3 2021, achieving a median download speed of 196.28 Mbps.

There was also no statistical winner for fastest fixed broadband provider in Côte d’Ivoire during Q2 2022, though CANALBOX had a median download speed at 38.86 Mbps, Moov Africa at 34.41 Mbps, and Orange at 32.22 Mbps.
  • Jordan: Speedtest Intelligence finds fixed broadband provider Orange again provided the fastest median download speed in Jordan at 89.11 Mbps during Q2 2022, a modest increase over its speed in Q1 2022 (78.08 Mbps). Umniah was again the fastest mobile operator in Jordan during Q2 2022, delivering a median download speed of 33.74 Mbps.
  • Kenya: Mobile operator Safaricom had the fastest median mobile download speed in Kenya at 22.74 Mbps during Q2 2022. On fixed broadband, Faiba had the fastest median download speed (24.94 Mbps) and highest Consistency (50.6%) in Kenya during Q2 2022. At the city-level, Mombasa was home to the fastest mobile and fixed broadband download speeds at 23.59 Mbps and 12.03 Mbps, respectively, during Q2 2022.
  • Libya: Speedtest Intelligence reveals that mobile operator Libyana again had the fastest median mobile download speed in Libya at 12.34 Mbps during Q2 2022. Among top fixed broadband providers, AWAL Telecom had the fastest median download speed in Libya at 17.70 Mbps during Q2 2022.
  • Tanzania: Among top mobile operators in Tanzania, Halotel again had the fastest median download speed (17.12 Mbps) during Q2 2022. Mwanza had the fastest median mobile download speed among Tanzania’s most populous cities at 17.25 Mbps during Q2 2022.
  • Turkey: Speedtest Intelligence reveals mobile provider Turkcell again had the fastest median download speed and highest Consistency in Turkey at 54.62 Mbps and 92.2%, respectively, during Q2 2022. Among popular device manufacturers, Apple devices bested Samsung devices in Turkey at 41.77 Mbps compared to 30.55 Mbps during Q2 2022. For fixed broadband in Turkey, TurkNet again had the highest median download speed (49.46 Mbps) and Consistency (77.2%) during Q2 2022.

Asia

  • China: According to Speedtest Intelligence, fixed broadband provider China Unicom’s median download speed of 172.81 Mbps was the fastest in the country, overtaking China Telecom’s 162.30 Mbps in Q2 2022. The race for fastest 5G in China was likewise tight in Q2 2022, with China Mobile again edging out China Telecom 299.26 Mbps to 290.70 Mbps, with China Unicom following at 272.66 Mbps. Among top device manufacturers, Huawei devices had the fastest median download speed in China at 113.70 Mbps during Q2 2022.

Europe

  • Belgium: Telenet decisively retained its spot as Belgium’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q2 2022, posting a median download speed of 129.30 Mbps. VOO followed at 111.93 Mbps. Among top mobile operators, Telenet/BASE again had the fastest median download speed at 76.09 Mbps, a modest rise over its speed in Q1 2022 (66.92 Mbps). Antwerp had the fastest median mobile download speed at 120.10 Mbps among Belgium’s most populous cities during Q2 2022.
  • Czechia: Speedtest Intelligence reveals T-Mobile was again Czechia’s fastest mobile provider during Q2 2022, recording a median download speed of 57.17 Mbps. When it comes to fixed broadband, Vodafone was again Czechia’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q2 2022, delivering a median download speed of 90.60 Mbps. At the city-level, Brno was home to both the fastest mobile and fixed broadband median download speeds in Q2 2022.
  • Denmark: Fastspeed was Denmark’s fastest fixed broadband provider again during Q2 2022, achieving a median download speed of 283.79 Mbps. YouSee was Denmark’s fastest mobile operator, registering a median download speed of 125.76 Mbps during Q2 2022, which marked a modest increase over 115.87 Mbps in Q1 2022. The Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro were ahead of the competition at 177.17 Mbps and 174.31 Mbps, respectively, during Q2 2022.
  • Estonia: According to Speedtest Intelligence, Elisa was again the fastest fixed broadband provider in Estonia during Q2 2022, achieving a median download speed of 77.19 Mbps. Telia again had the fastest median mobile download speed in Estonia at 71.48 Mbps during Q2 2022.
  • Finland: DNA edged out Elisa and Telia as Finland’s fastest fixed broadband provider in Q2 2022, recording a median download speed of 91.08 Mbps. DNA also took top honors as Finland’s fastest mobile operator at 72.24 Mbps. In addition, DNA had the fastest 5G download speed in Finland, achieving a median download speed of 279.95 Mbps.
  • Germany: Vodafone was Germany’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q2 2022, earning a median download speed of 110.42 Mbps. Telekom achieved the fastest median mobile download speed (77.35 Mbps) and highest Consistency (88.9%) among top German mobile operators during Q2 2022. Telekom also took the top spot by a wide margin for the fastest median 5G download speed in Germany at 195.38 Mbps during Q2 2022.
  • Latvia: Balticom had the fastest median fixed broadband download speed in Latvia at 198.90 Mbps and highest Consistency (91.7%) during Q2 2022. LMT had the fastest median mobile download speed in Latvia at 68.48 Mbps during Q2 2022 — a large increase from 50.70 Mbps during Q1 2022. Among Latvia’s most populous cities, Olaine achieved the fastest median fixed broadband download and upload speeds at 127.09 Mbps and 126.30 Mbps, respectively during Q2 2022.
  • Lithuania: Telia had the fastest median mobile download speed in Lithuania at 90.11 Mbps during Q2 2022, a modest increase from 77.77 Mbps during Q1 2022. Cgates again had the fastest median fixed broadband speed in Lithuania at 113.78 Mbps during Q2 2022.
  • Poland: UPC was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Poland, achieving a median download speed of 203.69 Mbps during Q2 2022. Mobile operator Plus had the fastest median 5G download speed in Poland at 171.14 Mbps during Q2 2022, a gain of roughly 4 Mbps over its speed in Q1 2022.

North and South America

  • Argentina: Personal was Argentina’s fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 27.22 Mbps during Q2 2022. Buenos Aires (24.30 Mbps) and Rosario (23.93 Mbps) led the way among Argentina’s most populous cities for fastest median mobile download speed.
  • Brazil: Speedtest Intelligence finds Claro was the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Brazil during Q2 2022, achieving a median download speed of 31.93 Mbps and Consistency of 84.2%.
  • Canada: Shaw was again Canada’s fastest fixed broadband provider, clocking a median download speed of 209.44 Mbps during Q2 2022. TELUS took the top spot as the fastest mobile operator in Canada, achieving a median download speed of 79.09 Mbps during Q2 2022. Competition for the fastest 5G in Canada was tight during Q2 2022 with no statistical winner, but Bell (139.75 Mbps) and TELUS (137.17 Mbps) led the way, with Rogers trailing at 93.06 Mbps.
  • Chile: Among popular device manufacturers in Chile during Q2 2022, Apple devices were the fastest, with a median download speed of 34.59 Mbps.
  • Colombia: Apple devices had the fastest median download speed among major device manufacturers in Colombia at 16.62 Mbps during Q2 2022.
  • Ecuador: According to Speedtest Intelligence, Netlife was Ecuador’s fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider during Q2 2022, achieving a median download speed of 58.22 Mbps and Consistency of 77.2%, both of which marked increases over Q1 2022. CNT was the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Ecuador during Q2 2022, with a median download speed of 33.32 Mbps and Consistency of 86.3%.
  • Guatemala: According to Speedtest Intelligence, Claro was the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Guatemala during Q2 2022, achieving a median download speed of 20.05 Mbps and Consistency of 78.4%. Tigo was the fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider in Guatemala, with a median download speed of 27.51 Mbps and Consistency of 58.4% during Q2 2022.
  • Mexico: Telcel was Mexico’s fastest mobile operator during Q2 2022, leading the market with a median download speed of 33.24 Mbps. Totalplay was the fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider in Mexico, achieving a median download speed of 60.55 Mbps and Consistency of 78.2% during Q2 2022, both moderate increases over Q1 2022.
  • Peru: According to Speedtest Intelligence, Winet Telecom was Peru’s fastest fixed broadband provider by a wide margin, achieving a median download speed of 106.90 Mbps during Q2 2022. Claro was the fastest mobile operator in Peru during Q2 2022, delivering a median download speed of 21.52 Mbps.
  • United States: Speedtest Intelligence reveals Cox claimed the fastest fixed broadband download speed among top providers in the United States during Q2 2022, achieving a median download speed of 196.73 Mbps. T-Mobile took the top spot as the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in the U.S. during Q2 2022, achieving a median download speed of 116.54 Mbps and Consistency of 85.7%. Looking at tests taken only on 5G, T-Mobile achieved the fastest median 5G download speed at 187.33 Mbps during Q2 2022. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was the fastest popular device in the U.S. at 105.26 Mbps during Q2 2022.

Shanghai and Beijing are the fastest cities on the Speedtest Global Index

The Speedtest Global Index now ranks median internet download speeds in nearly 200 cities all over the world. The Speedtest Global Index shows China topped the list with Shanghai as the fastest city on our list for mobile with a median download speed of 158.63 Mbps, while Beijing was fastest for fixed broadband during September 2022 at 238.86 Mbps.

Our list includes the two largest cities from each country. The cities must also have over 500,000 inhabitants and sufficient samples to be included. They are ranked according to median download speed based on Speedtest® data from the month prior.

  • Colombia: WOM was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 15.60 Mbps. Movistar was fastest for fixed broadband at 125.32 Mbps.
  • Dominican Republic: Claro had the fastest median download speed among mobile operators at 27.74 Mbps. Altice was fastest for fixed broadband at 23.54 Mbps.
  • El Salvador: Claro also had the fastest median download speed over mobile in El Salvador at 33.83 Mbps.

  • Canada: Bell was the fastest mobile operator in Canada with a median download speed of 111.11 Mbps at Q1 2023. Bell also had the fastest median 5G download speed at 183.29 Mbps. Bell pure fibre was fastest for fixed broadband (281.94 Mbps). 
  • Colombia: Movistar was fastest for fixed broadband with a median download speed of 151.74 Mbps. ETB had the lowest median multi-server latency over fixed broadband at 8 ms.
  • Dominican Republic: Claro had the fastest median download speed among mobile operators at 32.01 Mbps. Viva had the lowest mobile multi-server latency at 43 ms. SpaceX’s Starlink was fastest for fixed broadband at 45.65 Mbps. 
  • Ecuador: The fastest mobile operator was CNT with a median download speed of 30.82 Mbps. Netlife was fastest for fixed broadband (71.82 Mbps). Fibramax had the lowest multi-server latency over fixed broadband at 9 ms. 
  • El Salvador: Claro had the fastest median download speed over mobile in El Salvador at 39.09 Mbps.
  • Guatemala: Claro was the fastest mobile operator in Guatemala with a median download speed of 33.13 Mbps. Claro also had the highest Consistency with 84.5% of results showing at least a 5 Mbps minimum download speed and 1 Mbps minimum upload speed.
  • Guyana: ENet was the fastest fixed broadband provider (60.27 Mbps), while Digicel was the fastest mobile operator (35.60 Mbps). ENet also had the lowest median multi-server latency over fixed broadband at 120 ms.
  • Haiti: Digicel was the fastest mobile operator in Haiti with a median mobile download speed of 11.12 Mbps. SpaceX Starlink had the fastest fixed broadband internet at 46.76 Mbps. Natcom had the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at 62 ms. 
  • Jamaica: Flow was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Jamaica with a median download speed of 50.50 Mbps. Flow also had the lowest median multi-server latency at 36 ms.
  • Mexico: Telcel had the fastest median download speed over mobile at 45.54 Mbps. Totalplay was fastest for fixed broadband (78.94 Mbps) and had the lowest median multi-server latency at 26 ms.
  • Peru: Claro was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 22.39 Mbps. Apple devices had the fastest median download speed among top device manufacturers at 29.68 Mbps.
  • Suriname: Telesur had the fastest median download speed over mobile at 51.18 Mbps. There was no winner over fixed broadband, but Digicel+ had the lowest median multi-server latency at 57 ms.
  • Trinidad and Tobago: Digicel had the fastest median download speed over mobile at 37.56 Mbps. Digicel+ had the fastest median fixed broadband download speed at 94.27 Mbps and the lowest median multi-server latency at 7 ms.
  • United States: T-Mobile was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 165.22 Mbps. T-Mobile also had the fastest median 5G download speed at 220.70 Mbps. Spectrum edged out XFINITY as the fastest fixed broadband provider with a median download speed of 234.80 Mbps. Verizon had the lowest median multi-server latency on fixed broadband at 15 ms.

  • Afghanistan: The fastest mobile operator in Afghanistan was Afghan Wireless (5.92 Mbps), which also had the lowest median multi-server latency at 84 ms.
  • Bangladesh: Banglalink was the fastest mobile operator in Bangladesh with a median download speed of 21.94 Mbps. DOT Internet was fastest over fixed broadband at 89.50 Mbps and had the lowest median multi-server latency at 5 ms.
  • Bhutan: There was no fastest mobile operator in Bhutan during Q1 2023, but BT had the lowest median multi-server latency at 66 ms.
  • Brunei: There was no statistical winner on mobile during Q1 2023, but Apple devices had the fastest median download speed at 113.48 Mbps.
  • Cambodia: SINET had the fastest median download speed over fixed broadband (42.00 Mbps). Cellcard was fastest over mobile at 32.05 Mbps.
  • China: China Mobile was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 138.95 Mbps. China Mobile also had the fastest median mobile 5G download speed at 291.24 Mbps. China Unicom was fastest for fixed broadband at 221.07 Mbps.
  • Georgia: MagtiCom had the fastest median fixed broadband speed in Georgia at 27.65 Mbps during Q1 2023. MagtiCom also had the lowest median multi-server latency at 11 ms. Geocell was fastest over mobile at 40.81 Mbps.

  • Malaysia: TIME was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Malaysia (107.56 Mbps) and had the lowest multi-server latency at 9 ms.
  • Pakistan: Transworld had the fastest median fixed broadband download speed in Pakistan at 16.23 Mbps. Jazz was fastest over mobile at 21.93 Mbps. Zong had the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at 46 ms.
  • Philippines: Smart delivered the fastest mobile download speed in the Philippines (33.39 Mbps).

  • Denmark: YouSee was the fastest mobile operator in Denmark with a median download speed of 137.28 Mbps. Hiper was fastest for fixed broadband at 258.41 Mbps.

  • Mobile operator Safaricom had the fastest median mobile download speed at 20.49 Mbps in Kenya during Q1 2022.

  • Among top mobile operators in Tanzania, Halotel had the fastest median download speed (17.84 Mbps) and highest Consistency Score (80.1%) during Q1 2022.
  • Mwanza had the fastest median mobile download speed among Tanzania’s most populous cities at 13.76 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Turkey

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals mobile provider Turkcell had the fastest median download speed and highest Consistency Score in Turkey at 53.77 Mbps and 92.7%, respectively, during Q1 2022.

  • Among top device manufacturers, Huawei had the fastest median download speed in China at 108.94 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Hong Kong (SAR)

  • China Mobile Hong Kong was the fastest mobile operator in Hong Kong, achieving a median download speed of 66.11 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • China Mobile Hong Kong also showed the fastest 5G download speed, achieving a median speed of 172.19 Mbps during Q1 2022. Mobile provider 3 followed at 155.81 Mbps.

New Zealand

  • Vodafone was the fastest mobile operator in New Zealand during Q1 2022, earning a median download speed of 59.65 Mbps.
  • 2degrees blazed ahead with the fastest median 5G download speed in New Zealand at 479.71 Mbps during Q1 2022, beating out Vodafone (342.45 Mbps) and Spark (307.21 Mbps).
  • For fixed broadband, MyRepublic achieved the fastest median download speed in New Zealand at 217.66 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Philippines

  • During Q1 2022, Smart had the fastest median download speed (24.07 Mbps) among top mobile operators in the Philippines.
  • Smart also had the fastest median 5G download speed in the Philippines during Q1 2022 at 200.43 Mbps.
  • Caloocan took the top spot for fastest median mobile download speed among the Philippines’ most populous cities at 25.71 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Singapore

  • Speedtest Intelligence shows Singtel was the fastest top mobile operator in Singapore with a median download speed of 93.00 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • Singtel blazed ahead of the competition for fastest median 5G download speed in Singapore at 360.31 Mbps during Q1 2022 — a strong rise over its median 5G download speed of 289.01 Mbps during Q4 2021.

Taiwan

  • During Q1 2022, Chunghwa Telecom had the fastest median 5G download speed in Taiwan at 415.45 Mbps. FarEasTone followed at 310.83 Mbps.
  • The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 had the fastest median download speed among popular chipsets in Taiwan at 162.51 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Thailand

  • Speedtest Intelligence revealed that AIS had the fastest median download speed on mobile in Thailand at 43.52 Mbps during Q1 2022, beating out TrueMove H and dtac.
  • AIS also had the fastest median 5G download speed in Thailand during Q1 2022 at 261.19 Mbps, followed by TrueMove H and dtac.

Vietnam

  • Vinaphone was Vietnam’s fastest mobile operator during Q1 2022, reaching a median mobile download speed of 42.43 Mbps, just faster than Viettel (40.61 Mbps).
  • Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro had the fastest median download speed among popular devices in Vietnam at 70.91 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Europe

Austria

  • Magenta took the top spot as Austria’s fastest fixed broadband provider with a median download speed of 154.44 Mbps during Q1 2022. LIWEST was the closest competitor (88.75 Mbps).
  • A1 was the fastest mobile provider in Austria during Q1 2022, achieving a median download speed of 69.80 Mbps. Operator 3 followed at 53.73 Mbps.

Belgium

  • Telenet decisively claimed its spot as Belgium’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q1 2022, earning a median download speed of 129.18 Mbps. VOO followed at 109.76 Mbps.
  • Among mobile operators, Telenet/BASE had the fastest median download speed at 66.92 Mbps.

Czechia

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals T-Mobile was Czechia’s fastest mobile provider during Q1 2022, recording a median download speed of 55.63 Mbps.
  • Vodafone was Czechia’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q1 2022, achieving a median download speed of 89.23 Mbps.

Denmark

  • Fastspeed was Denmark’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q1 2022, achieving a median download speed of 284.28 Mbps. Hiper followed at 239.43 Mbps.
  • YouSee was Denmark’s fastest mobile operator, earning a median download speed of 115.87 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Estonia

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Elisa was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Estonia during Q1 2022, achieving a median download speed of 74.48 Mbps.
  • Telia had the fastest mobile median download speed in Estonia at 73.20 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Finland

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, DNA took the top spot as Finland’s fastest mobile operator in Q1 2022, earning a median download speed of 70.76 Mbps. DNA also edged out Telia for the highest Consistency Score 93.1% to 91.7%.
  • In addition, DNA had the fastest 5G download speed in Finland, achieving a median download speed of 297.70 Mbps. Telia (259.68 Mbps) and Elisa (230.35 Mbps) followed.
  • Competition was tight for Finland’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q1 2022. DNA (87.87 Mbps) raced past Elisa (86.54 Mbps) and Telia (86.13 Mbps) to take the top spot.

France

  • Orange earned the top spot as France’s fastest and most consistent mobile operator with a median mobile download speed of 81.03 Mbps and a Consistency Score of 89.8% during Q1 2022.
  • During Q1 2022, Orange dominated the competition as France’s fastest 5G provider by achieving a median 5G download speed of 366.42 Mbps. SFR followed at 247.32 Mbps.

Germany

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Vodafone was Germany’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q1 2022, earning a median download speed of 108.67 Mbps.
  • Telekom achieved the fastest median mobile download speed (79.34 Mbps) and Consistency Score (90.9%) among German mobile operators during Q1 2022.
  • Telekom took the top spot for the fastest median 5G download speed in Germany at 193.09 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Hungary

  • Vodafone was Hungary’s fastest fixed broadband provider with a median download speed of 159.59 Mbps during Q1 2022. Vodafone also had the highest Consistency Score at 87.9% during Q1 2022.
  • Yettel was Hungary’s fastest mobile operator during Q1 2022, earning a median download speed of 50.62 Mbps.

Latvia

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Balticom had the fastest median fixed broadband download speed in Latvia at 188.27 Mbps and highest Consistency Score (91.9%) during Q1 2022.
  • LMT had the fastest median mobile download speed in Latvia at 50.70 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Lithuania

  • Telia had the fastest median mobile download speed in Lithuania at 77.77 Mbps during Q1 2022. Tele2 followed at 41.75 Mbps, then BITE (29.81 Mbps).
  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals that Cgates had the fastest median fixed broadband speed in Lithuania at 99.50 Mbps during Q1 2022, edging out Penki (93.52 Mbps) and Telia (86.84 Mbps).

Luxembourg

  • Eltrona took the top spot as Luxembourg’s fastest fixed broadband provider during Q1 2022 by achieving a median download speed of 119.65 Mbps.
  • POST was the fastest mobile operator in Luxembourg, achieving a median download speed of 122.74 Mbps in Q1 2022.

Malta

  • Melita took the top spot as Malta’s fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider during Q1 2022, earning a median download speed of 117.68 Mbps and Consistency Score of 85.2%.

Moldova

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Orange dominated as Moldova’s fastest fixed broadband provider, achieving a median download speed of 203.54 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • Tiraspol showed the fastest median mobile download speed among Moldova’s most populous cities at 35.62 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Poland

  • Speedtest Intelligence revealed that UPC was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Poland, achieving a median download speed of 195.74 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • Mobile operator Plus had the fastest median 5G download speed in Poland at 167.37 Mbps during Q1 2022, a slight gain over Q4 2021.

Slovakia

  • Orange took the top spot as Slovakia’s fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 53.30 Mbps, edging out Telekom’s 45.90 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • Orange also dominated as the fastest 5G operator in Slovakia with a median 5G download speed at 299.09 Mbps during Q1 2022. 4ka followed at 177.76 Mbps.
  • UPC took the top spot as Slovakia’s fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider with a median download speed of 146.65 Mbps and a Consistency Score of 87.5% during Q1 2022.

Spain

  • Movistar provided the fastest and most consistent mobile experience among Spanish mobile operators during Q1 2022 with a median download speed of 52.44 Mbps and Consistency Score of 89.4%.
  • Vodafone was Spain’s fastest 5G provider by a wide margin, achieving a median download speed of 192.40 Mbps during Q1 2022.

North and South America

Argentina

  • Speedtest Intelligence revealed Personal was Argentina’s fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 25.57 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • There was a tight race for the fastest median mobile download speed in Argentina’s most populous cities with no statistical winner during Q1 2022. However, Buenos Aires (25.26 Mbps) and La Plata (25.18 Mbps) led the way.

Brazil

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals Claro was the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Brazil during Q1 2022, achieving a median download speed of 33.53 Mbps and Consistency Score of 84.6%.
  • Claro achieved the fastest median 5G download speed in Brazil at 72.35 Mbps during Q1 2022. TIM (62.80 Mbps) and Vivo (62.38 Mbps) followed.

Canada

  • Shaw was Canada’s fastest fixed broadband provider, earning a median download speed of 213.47 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • TELUS took the top spot as the fastest mobile operator in Canada, achieving a median download speed of 94.48 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • Competition for the fastest 5G in Canada was tight during Q1 2022 with TELUS edging out Bell 162.47 Mbps to 155.71 Mbps, respectively.

Chile

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Entel was the fastest mobile operator in Chile with a median download speed of 23.13 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • Temuco had the fastest median mobile download speed in Chile at 24.86 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Colombia

  • Cali had the fastest median mobile download speed among Colombia’s most populous cities at 15.32 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • Among major device manufacturers in Colombia, Apple devices had the fastest median download speed at 17.20 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Ecuador

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Netlife was Ecuador’s fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider during Q1 2022, achieving a median download speed of 45.53 Mbps and Consistency Score of 75.5%.
  • CNT was the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Ecuador during Q1 2022, with a median download speed of 33.11 Mbps and Consistency Score of 87.4%.

Guatemala

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Claro was the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in Guatemala during Q1 2022, achieving a median download speed of 21.40 Mbps and Consistency Score of 80.5%.
  • Tigo was the fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider in Guatemala with a median download speed of 26.56 Mbps and Consistency Score of 58.3% during Q1 2022.

Mexico

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals Telcel was Mexico’s fastest mobile operator during Q1 2022, leading the market with a median download speed of 40.25 Mbps.
  • Totalplay was the fastest and most consistent fixed broadband provider in Mexico, achieving a median download speed of 49.33 Mbps and Consistency Score of 74.3% during Q1 2022.

Peru

  • According to Speedtest Intelligence, Winet Telecom was Peru’s fastest fixed broadband provider by a wide margin, achieving a median download speed of 102.83 Mbps during Q1 2022.
  • Claro was the fastest mobile operator in Peru during Q1 2022, earning a median download speed of 19.55 Mbps.

United States

  • Speedtest Intelligence reveals Verizon was the fastest fixed broadband provider in the United States during Q1 2022, edging out XFINITY with a median download speed of 184.36 Mbps to XFINITY’s 179.12 Mbps.
  • T-Mobile took the top spot as the fastest and most consistent mobile operator in the U.S. during Q1 2022, achieving a median download speed of 117.83 Mbps and a Consistency Score of 88.3% — both increases over Q4 2021.
  • Looking at tests taken only on 5G, T-Mobile achieved the fastest median 5G download speed at 191.12 Mbps during Q1 2022. Verizon also had a notable increase in 5G download speed during Q1 2022 over Q4 2021 , which was helped by turning on new C-Band spectrum in January.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was the fastest popular device in the U.S. at 116.33 Mbps during Q1 2022.

Unable to Connect — The Most Significant Online Service Outages in Q3 2020

“Is it down?” frustrated users asked themselves during the multiple online service outages in Q3 2020. The fourth installment of our online service outage tracking series used Downdetector® data from Q3 2020 and focused on the following online service categories: cloud services, collaboration platforms, financial services, gaming, internet service providers and social media.

Cloud services

Cloudflare (July 17, 2020): 14,198 reports at peak

On July 17, a major disruption in Cloudflare’s service broke the internet, taking multiple online services down with it. Users rushed to Downdetector to log issues with multiple services that rely on Cloudflare for content delivery, including 4chan, DoorDash and Zendesk. At the peak of the outage, there were 14,198 reports of issues with the service in the U.S.

Azure (September 28, 2020): 2,846 reports at peak

Azure, Microsoft’s cloud service, was affected by September 28’s Microsoft-wide outage (see next category). Users from Germany, India, Japan and the U.S. stated they had issues with the cloud service. That day, there were 2,846 reports of issues at the peak of the outage in the U.S.

Collaboration platforms

Office 365 (September 28,2020): 20,437 reports at peak

Microsoft’s suite of online collaboration services including Outlook, Sharepoint, OneDrive and Skype went down on September 28 (along with Azure, see above). Logs of issues with the services started coming into Downdetector at 3 p.m Pacific. Most users stated being unable to log in or connect to the server. At the peak, there were 20,437 reported issues in the U.S. Users from Japan and India also logged problems with the service that day.

Zoom (August 24, 2020): 17,874 reports at peak

On August 24, users were upset to find that they were unable to connect with their coworkers, friends and family through Zoom. Most users stated problems with logging in and joining a conference. There were 17,874 reports of issues in the U.S. at the peak of the outage. Users in the U.K. and Canada also had issues with the video conferencing service that day.

Google Drive (September 24, 2020): 14,715 reports at peak

Users in the U.S., Philippines and Indonesia were unable to collaborate on projects, upload files or access their documents stored in Google Drive on September 24. At the peak of the outage in the U.S., there were 14,715 reported issues. Users of Google products YouTube and Gmail also logged issues in Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico and the U.K.

Slack (September 29, 2020): 1,396 reports at peak

Slack received 1,396 logs of issues at the peak of the outage reports on September 29. Users in the U.S. had problems with sending messages, videos and images to their peers — and some were unable to connect to the platform at all.

Financial services

TD Ameritrade (August 18, 2020): 7,814 reports at peak

The online stock investment tool reportedly went down on August 18. Users were unable to log into their account or buy and sell stocks. At the peak of the outage, there were 7,814 reports of issues in the U.S. There were two other notable outages that month — August 17 with 5,816 reports at peak and August 31 with 6,893 reports at peak.

Gaming

Steam (August 5, 2020): 69,255 reports at peak

Users from Brazil, Germany, Japan, the U.K and the U.S. submitted issues with Steam on August 5. Most users stated problems when trying to log into the platform and play with other users. At the peak of the outage in the U.S, there were 69,255 reports of issues with the gaming platform.

Fall Guys (September 2, 2020): 2,890 reports at peak

The Fall Guys status page on Downdetector showed there were problems with the popular online game on September 2. Users in Brazil, the U.K. and the U.S. were struggling to play the game online. That day, 97% of reports stated problems with the server connection.

Internet service providers

Spectrum (July 29, 2020): 56,318 reports at peak

Spectrum users from the both coasts of the United States flooded Downdetector with logs of issues with the service when they started experiencing problems with their internet connections. Complaints with the service started surging at around 5 p.m. Pacific and lasted for about an hour. At the peak of the outage there were 56,318 reports of issues.

CenturyLink (August 30, 2020): 11,543 reports at peak

CenturyLink customers on the East Coast of the U.S. had problems with their internet service on August 30 starting around 2 a.m. Pacific and ending around 8 a.m. Pacific. There were 11,543 reports of issues at the peak of the outage.

Social Media

WhatsApp (July 14, 2020): 148,573 reports at peak

A multi-country outage affected WhatsApp on July 14. Users from all over the world stated problems with sending and receiving messages on the Facebook-owned app. The country with the most issues submitted was Germany with 148,573 reports of issues at the peak of the outage. Users in Brazil, India, the Netherlands, Mexico, Spain and the U.K. were also affected by the outage.

Facebook (September 17, 2020): 30,918 reports at peak

Facebook users from multiple countries experienced problems with the social media platform on September 17. More than half of the logs were labeled as “total blackout” — users were unable to access the platform or any of its features. There were 30,918 reports of issues at the peak of the outage in the U.S. Users in Italy, Poland and the U.K. also had problems with Facebook that day.

Of Côte d’Ivoire most populous cities, Bouake had the fastest median fixed download speed of 59.22 Mbps, just ahead of Abidjan with 58.44 Mbps.
  • Mozambique: There were no statistical winners for fastest median mobile download speed during Q3 2023, with Vodacom and Tmcel delivering median download speeds of 31.16 Mbps and 27.89 Mbps, respectively. Tmcel recorded the lowest mobile multi-server latency at 52 ms and the highest Consistency at 91.8%. Of Mozambique’s most populous cities, Maputo had the fastest median mobile and fixed download speeds at 28.71 Mbps and 12.57 Mbps, respectively. SpaceX’s Starlink recorded the fastest fixed broadband median download speed in Q3 2023 at 53.98 Mbps, along with the highest Consistency at 60.3%. Meanwhile, TVCABO recorded the lowest median multi-server latency over fixed broadband at 14 ms.
  • Senegal: There was no winner of fastest median mobile performance in Senegal during Q3 2023, with Orange and Free both tied. Orange led the market for median fixed broadband download performance, with 21.68 Mbps in Q3 2023. It also had the lowest median multi-server latency at 85 ms and highest Consistency of 45.3%. Of Senegal’s most populous cities, Dakar had the fastest median fixed download speed of 26.08 Mbps.

Americas

  • Argentina: Personal had the fastest median download speed over mobile at 36.63 Mbps, while also registering lowest mobile multi-server latency at 39 ms during Q3 2023. In the fixed broadband market, there was no statistically fastest network, with Movistar and Telecentro delivering median download speeds of 102.55 Mbps and 101.96 Mbps, respectively. Movistar recorded the lowest multi-server latency of 10 ms. Among Argentina’s most populous cities, La Plata recorded the fastest mobile download speed of 35.48 Mbps, while Buenos Aires recorded the fastest fixed download speed of 105.50 Mbps.
  • Belize: Digi had the fastest median mobile download and upload speeds of 17.23 Mbps and 10.38 Mbps, respectively during Q3 2023. Digi also recorded the highest Consistency of 81.5%, while smart! recorded the lowest median mobile multi-server latency of 55 ms. NEXGEN had the fastest median download and upload speeds over fixed broadband in Belize at 48.27 Mbps and 47.29 Mbps, respectively.
  • Canada: Bell was the fastest mobile operator in Canada with a median download speed of 100.77 Mbps in Q3 2023. Bell also had the fastest median 5G download speed at 183.06 Mbps. Rogers had the fastest median mobile upload speed of 11.44 Mbps, and the highest Consistency of 82.9%. Bell pure fibre was fastest for fixed broadband, recording a median download speed of 286.08 Mbps and a median upload speed of 244.64 Mbps. Of Canada’s most populous cities, St. John’s recorded the fastest median mobile download speed at 158.19 Mbps, while Fredericton recorded the fastest median fixed broadband download speed of 238.49 Mbps.
  • Colombia: Movistar was fastest for fixed broadband with a median download speed of 181.42 Mbps in Q3 2023. ETB had the lowest median multi-server latency over fixed broadband at 9 ms. Of Colombia’s most populous cities, Cartagena recorded the fastest median fixed download speed of 125.15 Mbps.
  • Costa Rica: Claro had the fastest median download and upload speeds among mobile operators at 52.38 Mbps and 12.56 Mbps, respectively. Liberty had the lowest mobile multi-server latency at 33 ms and the highest Consistency at 80.1%. Metrocom was fastest for fixed broadband download and upload performance, at 213.77 Mbps and 157.89 Mbps, respectively.
  • Dominican Republic: Claro had the fastest median download and upload speeds among mobile operators at 32.22 Mbps and 9.27 Mbps, respectively. Viva had the lowest mobile multi-server latency at 44 ms. SpaceX’s Starlink was fastest for fixed broadband download performance at 49.21 Mbps, while Claro recorded the fastest median upload speed at 14.81 Mbps, as well as the lowest multi-server latency at 40 ms. Of the Dominican Republic’s most populous cities, Santo Domingo recorded the fastest median mobile and fixed download speeds of 37.43 Mbps and 44.92 Mbps, respectively.
  • Ecuador: There was no winner of fastest median mobile performance in Ecuador during Q3 2023, with CNT and Claro posting median download speeds of 28.00 Mbps and 26.65 Mbps, respectively. Movistar recorded the lowest mobile multi-server latency, of 40 ms. Netlife was fastest for fixed broadband, with a median download speed of 90.31 Mbps. Netlife also recorded the lowest multi-server latency over fixed broadband at 8ms.
  • El Salvador: Claro had the fastest median download speed among mobile operators at 41.26 Mbps, along with the highest Consistency of 88.5%. Movistar registered the lowest median multi-server latency in El Salvador at 59 ms. Cable Color recorded the fastest median fixed download speed at 54.91 Mbps, the top median upload speed at 49.87 Mbps, and the lowest median multi-server latency of 42 ms.
  • Guatemala: Claro was the fastest mobile operator in Guatemala with a median download speed of 37.39 Mbps and a median upload speed of 20.43 Mbps. Claro also had the highest Consistency at 86.1%, while also leading the market for 5G performance, with a median 5G download speed of 370.97 Mbps. SpaceX’s Starlink was fastest for median fixed download performance at 56.91 Mbps, while Cable Color was fastest for fixed upload performance at 28.96 Mbps. Cable Color also had the lowest median multi-server latency on fixed broadband at 34 ms.
  • Guyana: There was no winner of fastest median mobile performance in Guyana during Q3 2023, with ENet and Digicel posting median download speeds of 32.48 Mbps and 28.01 Mbps, respectively. ENet recorded the fastest median mobile upload speed at 18.03 Mbps and offered the lowest median multi-server latency at 137 ms. In the fixed broadband market, ENet recorded the fastest median download and upload speeds, of 61.46 Mbps and 39.75 Mbps, respectively.
  • Haiti: Digicel was the fastest mobile operator in Haiti with a median mobile download speed of 13.77 Mbps, a median upload speed of 9.92 Mbps, and Consistency of 67.4%. SpaceX Starlink had the fastest median fixed download speed at 50.18 Mbps. Natcom had the fastest median fixed upload speed at 32.10 Mbps and the lowest median fixed multi-server latency at 41 ms.
  • Honduras: Claro had the fastest median download and upload speeds over mobile at 54.06 Mbps and 15.75 Mbps, respectively. Claro also had the lowest mobile median multi-server latency at 89 ms and highest Consistency at 88.4%. Claro recorded the fastest median fixed broadband download speed of 46.11 Mbps, while TEVISAT had the fastest median upload speed of 21.30 Mbps and lowest median multi-server latency of 32 ms.
  • Jamaica: There was no winner of fastest median mobile download performance in Jamaica during Q3 2023, with Digicel and Flow tied. Digicel recorded the fastest median upload speed of 9.55 Mbps and highest Consistency of 85.8%. Flow had the lowest mobile median multi-server latency at 36 ms. SpaceX Starlink had the fastest median download speed over fixed broadband at 79.85 Mbps.
  • Mexico: Telcel had the fastest median download speed over mobile at 50.81 Mbps, and the operator also delivered the fastest median 5G download speed at 223.06 Mbps. Telcel also had the lowest mobile median multi-server latency at 63 ms and highest Consistency at 87.1%. Totalplay was fastest for fixed broadband with a median download speed of 88.28 Mbps and upload speed of 30.60 Mbps. Totalplay also had the lowest median multi-server latency at 27 ms. Among Mexico’s most populous cities, Monterrey recorded the fastest median download speeds on both mobile and fixed, at 39.47 Mbps and 77.94 Mbps, respectively.
  • Panama: MasMovil was the fastest mobile operator with median download and upload speeds of 23.66 Mbps and 15.49 Mbps, respectively, as well as the highest Consistency of 80.6%. MasMovil was also the fastest fixed network provider, with a median download speed of 147.50 Mbps and a median upload speed of 30.12 Mbps.
  • Peru: Claro was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 22.27 Mbps,and Claro also had the highest mobile Consistency in the market with 80.3%.
  • Trinidad and Tobago: Digicel had the fastest median download speed over mobile at 34.92 Mbps and highest Consistency of 89.4%. Digicel+ had the fastest median fixed broadband download and upload speeds at 114.20 Mbps and 105.21 Mbps, respectively. Digicel+ also had the lowest median multi-server latency at 7 ms, as well as the highest Video Score at 82.35.
  • United States: T-Mobile was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 163.59 Mbps. T-Mobile also had the fastest median 5G download speed at 221.57 Mbps, as well as the lowest 5G multi-server latency of 50 ms. Cox led the market as the fastest fixed broadband provider with a median download speed of 260.09 Mbps, while AT&T Internet recorded the fastest median fixed upload speed of 188.60 Mbps, and Verizon had the lowest median multi-server latency on fixed broadband at 16 ms.
  • Uruguay: Antel was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 182.79 Mbps, and Antel also had the lowest median multi-server latency of 42 ms.
  • Venezuela: Digitel was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 13.53 Mbps and a median upload speed of 6.54 Mbps. Digitel also recorded the highest Consistency in the market, with 66.2%, and the lowest median multi-server latency of 95 ms. Airtek Solutions had the fastest fixed median download speed of 82.79 Mbps, upload speed of 88.09 Mbps, and the lowest median multi-server latency at 7 ms.

Asia

  • Afghanistan: The fastest mobile operator in Afghanistan was Afghan Wireless with a median download speed of 6.38 Mbps. The operator also had the lowest median multi-server latency at 74 ms and the highest Consistency of 52.3% in Q3 2023.
  • Bangladesh: Banglalink was the fastest mobile operator in Bangladesh with a median download speed of 25.03 Mbps in Q3 2023. Banglalink also recorded the highest Consistency of 85.3% and the lowest median multi-server latency of 35ms. DOT Internet was the fastest fixed broadband provider with a median download speed of 90.20 Mbps, while also recording the highest Consistency at 85.6% and the lowest median multi-server latency at 5 ms.
  • Bhutan: There was no statistical winner for fastest mobile download performance during Q3 2023 in Bhutan, with BT and TashiCell both tied.
  • Brunei: There was no statistical winner for fastest mobile download performance during Q3 2023 in Brunei, with DST and Imagine both tied.
  • Cambodia: Cellcard recorded the fastest median mobile download speed at 31.76 Mbps during Q3 2023, while Metfone recorded the highest Consistency at 81.0% and the lowest median multi-server latency at 38 ms. There was no statistical winner among top providers in Cambodia for median fixed download speed, with SINET and MekongNet both tied.
  • China: China Mobile was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 179.81 Mbps, and highest Consistency of 95.6%. China Broadnet recorded the fastest median 5G download speed at 297.59 Mbps. China Unicom was fastest for fixed broadband at 208.59 Mbps. Among China’s most populous cities, Beijing recorded the fastest median mobile download speed of 220.21 Mbps, while Tianjin recorded the fastest median fixed download speed of 284.90 Mbps.
  • Georgia: There was no statistical winner for fastest mobile download performance during Q3 2023 in Georgia, with Geocell and Magti both tied. Geocell recorded the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at 41 ms, while Magti recorded the highest mobile Consistency with 88.0%. MagtiCom had the fastest median fixed download speed at 27.80 Mbps during Q3 2023. It also recorded the highest Consistency, of 66.3%, and the lowest median multi-server latency at 12 ms. Among Georgia’s most populous cities, Gori recorded the fastest median mobile download speed of 39.01 Mbps, while Tbilisi recorded the fastest median fixed download speed of 26.98 Mbps.
  • Indonesia: Telkomsel was the fastest Indonesian mobile operator with a median download speed of 31.04 Mbps. Telkomsel also had the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at 45 ms.
  • Japan: Rakuten Mobile recorded the fastest mobile download and upload speeds during Q3 2023 in Japan, at 46.98 Mbps and 19.34 Mbps, respectively. The operator also recorded the highest Consistency in the market at 90.4%, while SoftBank recorded the lowest median multi-server latency at 44 ms. So-net had the fastest fixed download and upload speeds, at 270.59 Mbps and 213.43 Mbps, respectively, as well as the lowest median multi-server latency over fixed broadband at 9 ms.
  • Malaysia: TIME was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Malaysia with a median download speed of 110.23 Mbps. TIME also recorded the highest Consistency in the market with 88.5% and the lowest multi-server latency at 9 ms.
  • Pakistan: Jazz delivered the fastest median mobile download speed in Pakistan at 20.63 Mbps in Q3 2023 and the highest Consistency of 80.5%. Zong recorded the lowest median mobile multi-server latency of 52 ms. Transworld had the fastest median fixed broadband download speed in Pakistan at 18.91 Mbps and the highest Consistency at 40.1%.
  • Philippines: Smart delivered the fastest median mobile download speed in the Philippines at 35.56 Mbps in Q3 2023.
  • South Korea: SK Telecom recorded the fastest median mobile download and upload speeds at 174.80 Mbps and 17.94 Mbps, respectively, while also recording the highest Consistency in the market at 86.3%. LG U+ had the lowest median mobile multi-server latency in the market at 66 ms. In South Korea’s fixed broadband market, LG U+ delivered the fastest median download and upload speeds at 148.56 Mbps and 96.53 Mbps, respectively. LG U+ also recorded the lowest median multi-server latency of 38 ms.
  • Sri Lanka: SLT-Mobitel delivered the fastest mobile and fixed download speed in Sri Lanka at 21.78 Mbps and 35.70 Mbps respectively in Q3 2023. Dialog had the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at 35 ms, while SLT-Mobitel recorded the lowest fixed broadband multi-server latency at 13 ms and the highest Consistency at 56.4%.
  • Turkey: Turkcell was the fastest mobile operator in Turkey with a median download speed of 57.60 Mbps, and the operator also recorded the highest Consistency of 90.8%. Türk Telekom had the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at 41 ms. TurkNet was fastest for fixed broadband, with a median download speed of 64.31 Mbps. TurkNet also recorded the lowest median fixed multi-server latency at 13 ms, and highest Consistency at 80.6%. Among Turkey’s most populous cities, Istanbul recorded the fastest median download speeds across mobile and fixed, of 41.22 Mbps, and 44.38 Mbps, respectively.
  • Vietnam: Vinaphone had the fastest median mobile download speed in Q3 2023, at 54.74 Mbps. Vinaphone also had the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at 34 ms and the highest Consistency at 94.7%. Viettel was the fastest fixed provider with a median download speed of 109.77 Mbps. Viettel also recorded the lowest median fixed broadband multi-server latency of 7 ms and the highest Consistency at 91.4%.

Europe

  • Albania: There was no statistical winner for fastest mobile download performance during Q3 2023 in Albania, with One Albania and Vodafone tied. One Albania recorded the highest Consistency of 84.5%, while Vodafone recorded the lowest median multi-server latency at 35 ms. Digicom was the fastest fixed broadband provider with a median download speed of 93.98 Mbps, while also recording the highest Consistency at 87.9%. Among Albania’s most populous cities, Elbasan recorded the fastest median mobile download speed of 65.31 Mbps, while Vlorë recorded the fastest median fixed download speed of 56.98 Mbps.
  • Belgium: Proximus recorded the fastest median mobile download speed during Q3 2023, at 88.76 Mbps. Proximus also recorded the highest mobile Consistency in the market at 89.4%. Telenet had the fastest median fixed download speed at 149.77 Mbps, while VOO recorded the highest Consistency at 89.2%. Among Belgium’s most populous cities, Ghent recorded the fastest median mobile download speed of 213.88 Mbps, while Antwerp offered the fastest median fixed download speed of 88.93 Mbps.
  • Denmark: YouSee was the fastest mobile operator in Denmark with a median download speed of 131.88 Mbps in Q3 2023. Hiper was fastest for fixed broadband, with a median download speed of 274.54 Mbps.
  • Estonia: The fastest mobile operator in Estonia was Telia with a median download speed of 89.65 Mbps in Q3 2023. Elisa was the fastest fixed broadband provider, with a median download speed of 97.27 Mbps, while Infonet recorded the lowest median fixed broadband multi-server latency of 5 ms.
  • Finland: DNA had the fastest median mobile download speed at 100.55 Mbps in Q3 2023 and the highest Consistency of 91.9%. Telia recorded the lowest median mobile multi-server latency of 32 ms. Lounea was fastest for fixed broadband with a median download speed of 122.03 Mbps. Lounea also recorded the highest Consistency in the market at 92.3%, as well as the lowest median fixed broadband multi-server latency at 11 ms.
  • Germany: Telekom was the fastest mobile operator in Germany during Q3 2023, with a median download speed of 91.53 Mbps, as well as the top median download speed over 5G at 182.50 Mbps. Telekom also recorded the highest Consistency in the market at 90.7% and the lowest median mobile multi-server latency of 39 ms. Deutsche Glasfaser recorded the fastest fixed broadband performance, with a median download speed at 191.89 Mbps. It also recorded the highest Consistency in the market at 89.8% and the lowest fixed broadband multi-server latency of 14 ms.
  • Latvia: BITĖ was the fastest mobile operator in Latvia during Q3 2023, with a median download speed of 81.00 Mbps and the highest Consistency in the market of 89.3%. LMT recorded the lowest mobile multi-server latency at 27 ms. Balticom was fastest for fixed broadband with a median download speed of 256.37 Mbps. Balticom also had the highest fixed broadband Consistency of 92.5% and the lowest median fixed broadband multi-server latency at 4 ms.
  • Lithuania: Telia was the fastest mobile operator in Lithuania during Q3 2023, with a median download speed of 117.76 Mbps in Q3 2023. Telia also recorded the highest Consistency in the market at 92.8%. Cgates was fastest for fixed broadband with a median download speed at 167.30 Mbps. Cgates also recorded the highest Consistency over fixed broadband in the market at 90.1%.
  • Poland: T-Mobile was the fastest mobile operator in Poland during Q3 2023, with a median download speed of 50.31 Mbps. T-Mobile also recorded the highest Consistency in the market at 86.8%. Plus recorded the fastest 5G performance in the market, with a median 5G download speed of 146.01 Mbps. UPC was the fastest provider for fixed broadband with a median download speed of 228.57 Mbps in Q3 2023. Among Poland’s most populous cities, Łódź recorded the fastest median mobile download speed of 52.92 Mbps, while Wrocław recorded the fastest median fixed download speed of 163.04 Mbps.
  • Switzerland: Salt was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Switzerland, with a median download speed of 384.65 Mbps. Salt also had the highest Consistency in the market at 94.8% and the lowest median multi-server latency over fixed broadband at 8 ms.

Oceania

  • New Zealand: One NZ was the fastest mobile operator in New Zealand during Q3 2023, with a median download speed of 74.20 Mbps. 2degrees led the market with the highest Consistency of 91.0% and the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at 41 ms.

U.S. Airports Have Fastest Free Airport Wi-Fi, Chinese Airports Have Faster Mobile

The summer travel season is about to officially begin across the northern hemisphere and we’re back with fresh data for our series on airport Wi-Fi performance. This year we examined mobile Wi-Fi on free Wi-Fi provided by the individual airports as well as mobile speeds at some of the busiest airports in the world during Q1 2023. While airports in the United States top the list of fastest free airport Wi-Fi, the fastest mobile speeds we saw were in China. Read on for a specific look at internet performance including: download speed, upload speed, and latency.

U.S. airports have fastest airport Wi-Fi

Speedtest Intelligence® showed two U.S. airports at the top of the list for free airport Wi-Fi with Fort Lauderdale’s Hollywood International Airport Terminal 3 and San Francisco International Airport showing median download speeds of 157.60 Mbps and 156.66 Mbps, respectively, during Q1 2023. This represented a small drop for SFO since our November analysis but an increase for FLL. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (143.42 Mbps), John F. Kennedy International Airport (136.06 Mbps), and Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (136.02 Mbps) rounded out the top five with three additional SSIDs from FLL following closely behind with median download speeds from 122.07 Mbps to 134.62 Mbps.

As we’ve seen in most recent analyses, the airports with the fastest Wi-Fi are international hubs that passengers from around the world pass through on their way to all kinds of destinations. If you are connecting through any of these airports, you should have no trouble with internet speeds this fast. In case of video calls, upload speeds are even faster than downloads at almost all of these airports, and SFO had the fastest uploads on the list.

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport and SEA had the lowest median multi-server latency on Wi-Fi of any of the airports surveyed during Q1 2023. This means your device should see very little delay when relaying information across the web.

Shanghai tops Wi-Fi performance at global airports

Shanghai Pudong International Airport was the fastest non-U.S. airport on our list with a fastest median download speed of 118.67 Mbps. Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris (98.82 Mbps), Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (82.83 Mbps), Dubai International Airport (67.21 Mbps), and Frankfurt Airport (59.10 Mbps) followed for median download speeds at non-U.S. airports. All of these airports have internet speeds that qualify as at least good, which means you should be okay unless you want to try multi-player gaming (which is probably not your first choice on an airport layover anyway). Both Mexican airports on our list showed speeds in the slow range, so log off early and enjoy your vacation if you’re at the airport in Cancún or Mexico City.

Chinese airports have fastest mobile speeds

Get ready to connect to local mobile service or tether your phone to your laptop if you’re traveling through airports in Shanghai and Beijing and have access to 5G. Not only did Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport, and Beijing Daxing International Airport have the fastest median downloads over mobile on our list at 308.51 Mbps, 304.87 Mbps, and 300.70 Mbps, respectively, during Q1 2023 — the mobile speeds at these airports were dramatically faster than the airport Wi-Fi. Salt Lake City International Airport (282.21 Mbps) and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (259.86 Mbps) rounded out the top five.

While latency on mobile was generally higher than that on Wi-Fi, these same three Chinese airports (PEK, PKX, and PVG) also showed the lowest median multi-server latency on mobile during Q1 2023, indicating that your internet experience at these airports will have the least lag. Airports outside the U.S. performed better for latency overall with the top 16 airports for latency all located outside North America. CUN had the highest latency on mobile.

We were able to include more airports in the mobile analysis because there were more mobile samples to analyze at those airports than there were samples over Wi-Fi.

Airport Wi-Fi or mobile? Connecting on your next trip

Save yourself time by using this checklist to decide whether to try out the Wi-Fi or simply use the local mobile network. We compared internet performance on free airport Wi-Fi with median download speeds over mobile for the 38 airports we have both Wi-Fi and mobile data for during Q1 2023. Twenty-one airports had faster mobile internet than airport Wi-Fi. Twelve airports had faster Wi-Fi than mobile, and four airports showed only a slight distinction between Wi-Fi and mobile so we gave both the green check marks.

Analyzing Internet Speeds at the Busiest Airports in North America

The last time we analyzed internet speeds at airports in North America, we focused entirely on the busiest airports in the U.S. As part of our series on the fastest airports around the world, this time we’re expanding to include the busiest airports across the entire North American continent.

Using Speedtest data from March-May 2017, we’re ranking free airport Wi-Fi and cellular speeds at 30 airports from Calgary to Panamá City. For airports we’ve examined before, we’ve also included details on how much their speeds have improved, or (sadly) declined.

Fastest airport Wi-Fi

Free airport Wi-Fi is clearly an expectation travelers have at North American airports and many airports are rising to the challenge. Once again, Denver International’s Wi-Fi is fast. In fact, downloads at Denver’s airport are 27% faster than the last time we crunched the numbers. Even better, it’s the fastest Wi-Fi we’ve seen at any airport on the planet. Second fastest in North America and (as far as airports we’ve examined in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America) second fastest in the world is Vancouver International Airport.


Flyers at international airports in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma and Calgary should also be delighted with the free airport Wi-Fi they see at those hubs—all of which are faster than any free airport Wi-Fi we saw in Asia, Europe or Africa. Though mostly slower than the average mobile Wi-Fi download speed in the U.S. (57.31 Mbps) and Canada (51.17 Mbps), travelers at these airports should have no complaints about Wi-Fi speeds.

Wi-Fi download speeds at airports in Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth and Mexico City are about as fast as those in Moscow or Seoul. Miami’s speed is similar to that in Delhi. Meanwhile the speeds in Toronto, Atlanta and Montréal were slower than any Wi-Fi we saw in Africa, though comparable to many airports in China. The Wi-Fi at Benito Juárez is 87% faster than Mexico’s country average for mobile Wi-Fi of 14.81 Mbps.

We were delighted to see how much some airports had improved their Wi-Fi download speeds in the last 6 months. San Francisco, in particular, offered a 718% improvement. Boston was up 283%, LaGuardia increased 145% and Orlando 124%. And then there are the airports where Wi-Fi got slower: Miami, Chicago, and Newark all saw double-digit drops.

We saw no tests on the published free airport Wi-Fi SSIDs in San Salvador, Cancún, Panamá City and San José. Guadalajara did not seem to have free airport Wi-Fi.

Fastest airport cell

Canada’s airports rule when it comes to the fastest cellular service at airports in North America. Of the top five airports with the fastest download speeds over cellular, only one (Detroit) is located in the U.S., and pretty close to the Canadian border at that. That makes sense considering Canada has the fastest cellular download speeds for the country as a whole (33.40 Mbps) of any of the countries included in this analysis. Vancouver and Toronto had particularly fast cellular download speeds, faster than any other airports we’ve examined, including those in Munich or Rome.


Of the next 10 fastest airports for cellular downloads, Mexico City is the only one not in the U.S. Ranging from nearly 20 Mbps to just over 30 Mbps, download speeds at these airports most closely resemble those in South Africa.

It’s a little surprising how many major U.S. airports have cellular download speeds that are about half as slow as the country-wide average of 22.64 Mbps during the same time period. Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport in San Salvador fares better with a download speed that’s more than twice as fast as the El Salvadorean average of 8.13 Mbps.

Elsewhere on the continent, airport speeds more closely mirror country averages. Of the airports we looked at in Mexico, both Benito Juárez and Guadalajara closely straddle the country average of 19.75 Mbps, while Cancún falls a little behind. Tocumen is only somewhat slower than the 13.03 Mbps average download speed in Panamá and Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José is barely above Costa Rica’s 3.37 Mbps.

The 60% improvement in cellular download speeds at Denver International is impressive and Phoenix Sky Harbor, LaGuardia, George Bush Metropolitan and Detroit Intercontinental all showed double-digit increases. Disappointing, though is the fact that cellular download speeds decreased at 9 of the 30 airports we’d previously surveyed.

Wi-Fi or cell?

The answer to this question very much varies depending on which airport you’re at, providing you’re somewhere that both free airport Wi-Fi and cellular service are available.


Canadian airports have such great cellular speeds that you can skip the Wi-Fi. Even though Wi-Fi is technically faster in Calgary. And you’re better off with Wi-Fi in Mexico City.

U.S. airports are all over the map when it comes to choosing Wi-Fi or cell. Nothing beats the Wi-Fi download speed at the Denver airport and, in general, Wi-Fi tends to be faster than cell speeds at airports in the western (but not southwestern) U.S. Wi-Fi is better than cell throughout the northeastern U.S. Meanwhile, airports from Houston to Orlando have better cellular service. But then you’re back to Wi-Fi in Miami.

Regional trends

Canada

Canada has great cellular speeds overall but the Wi-Fi varies a lot by airport. It’s poor at the two easternmost airports we looked at and wonderfully fast at the two westernmost airports.

Central America

Free Wi-Fi is a no-go at the Central American airports we looked at and cellular speeds varied widely depending on the country.

Mexico

Cellular service is a safe bet in Mexico. Though free Wi-Fi is faster at Benito Juárez International Airport, it’s either not available or untested at the other two airports we surveyed and the cellular speeds aren’t terrible at any of the three.

United States

Because we looked at so many airports in the U.S., it became difficult to draw larger trend lines through the data. Unless you’re at LaGuardia or LAX, cellular speeds are pretty good. Free Wi-Fi is generally available, though slow in Atlanta, Minneapolis, Orlando and Phoenix. We’re excited that cellular speeds are getting better in most places and mystified by the places where Wi-Fi is even slower than before.
